Best way to prepare for a newborn session {Houston Texas Newborn Photographer}
A Houston newborn photo session can be a wonderful way to capture precious memories of your new addition to the family. Here are some tips to ensure a successful and memorable photoshoot:
Choose the Right Photographer…ahem ahem- ME!: Look for a professional newborn photographer in Houston with experience in handling and posing newborns. Check their portfolio to ensure their style aligns with your preferences. If you love my light and aesthetic, timeless and classic, high end and quality products, then I AM YOUR GIRL!
Timing is Key: Newborn sessions are best done within the first 2 weeks of birth when babies are sleepier and more cooperative for posing. Contact me as soon as you have your due date or before your baby arrives to schedule a tentative session date. I do take last minute sessions but depends if I have availability or not. I only book 8-10 sessions each month so booking early is always recommended.
Prepare the Baby: Try to keep your baby awake before the session, so they are sleepier during the shoot. Feed your baby before you leave for the session to keep them comfortable and content during the process. Sometimes babies do wake up when they get to the studio and that is okay. We will give the baby a feeding. Please be open to feeding on demand so we can have a smoother session and a happy content baby. I have a prep guide for you to go through so you can be extra prepared for your session.
Keeping baby Comfortable: My studio is warm to keep the baby comfortable during undressing and posing. This helps them sleep better and allows for those adorable curled-up poses. Please let your husband know about the photography process so they know what to expect and that it is warm. =) PACIFIER is needed and recommended especially during posing transitions or when we have a fussy baby.
Color preference: I will set up a phone consultation with you to discuss color preference. Bring a few special items if you'd like to include in the photos, but also rely on my expertise for choosing appropriate props. Communicate in advance about your preferences, styles, and any specific shots you have in mind. This will help me tailor the session to your vision.
Family Involvement: Newborn sessions can include family members. Please prep for the parent shots and family shots. Prepare your outfits and sibling (if any) outfits and keep it neutral. No logos and heavy patterns/stripes. These photos capture the unique dynamic of your growing family.
Minimal Distractions: During the session, try to minimize noise and distractions. This helps keep the baby calm and sleepy for those precious posed shots.
Patience is Key: Newborn sessions can take time due to feeding, soothing, and posing breaks. Be patient and flexible throughout the process. Very important! If the baby has siblings, please prepare to have them picked up by another family member or Dad can step out of the studio to take siblings to the park/ have lunch, etc.
Capture Candid Moments: While posed shots are beautiful, I love capture candid moments of you interacting with your baby. These authentic shots can be just as special.
Safety First: If you're incorporating certain poses or props, please know that there is no guarantee for all the poses to be done. I follow safety guidelines and my posing workflow and if baby is fussy and not having it, I do carry on to the next pose. I do not force the baby into a pose. The baby's safety should always be a top priority. I always want my baby clients to be happy and comfortable.
Relax and Enjoy: The session is not only about getting perfect shots but also about enjoying the experience. Babies are unpredictable, and sometimes the most unplanned moments make for the most memorable photos.
Plan Ahead: Please get to the studio on time. If you are late to the session, it does take away from your session time.
Post-Processing: Processing and editing takes 2-3 weeks after your session. I hand edit each image and choose the best ones for your gallery. I will let you know when gallery is ready to be revealed and we can set up your ordering appointment.
Remember that each newborn is unique, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to a successful session. The goal is to capture the fleeting moments of your baby's earliest days in a way that resonates with your family's style and personality.
